Ameritel’s company owned-and-operated store at the bustling corner of 34th Street and Ninth Avenue in Manhattan was
one of only six authorized T-Mobile dealers to sell the much anticipated G1 mobile phone on its launch day, Tuesday, October 21.
The store celebrated the debut of the first “Google Phone,” based on search engine Google’s innovative Android software,
with a day-long event during which three lucky customers won cash prizes and brand new G1 phones. T-Mobile is the first
wireless carrier to offer a Google phone.
A line had formed down Ninth Avenue and around the corner before the doors opened at 8:00 a.m., when eager customers were
greeted by Ameritel and T-Mobile executives. Ameritel had advertised the event on local hip-hop radio station HOT 97, and
HOT 97 DJs kept the party going until 9 p.m.
Three customers won raffle prizes including a $1,000 cash giveaway to one and G1 phones to two others.
